I'm curious if you noticed a temperature difference in the house, i.e. did your A/C work better. Also, did you take a temperature reading in your attic before and after? Great job!
I wish I could answer this but no I did not take readings and I wouldn’t be able to tell you if there is a meaningful difference. That being said having these does circulate the cool air in and help your roofs life expectancy so to me they were very worth it knowing they also are helping alleviate the heat - I just don’t have data to show my own before and after
Nice! Some ideas: Do your cuts and a dry run first.
Not sure of your codes in your area and I know you can build out here in California a 10x10 without a permit but sheating goes plate to plate . Bottom plate to top plate . At least out here . Great job
Thanks! Yea it’s 12x10 or up to 120 square feet and under I THINK 10 feet (don’t quote me on that second point) before you need a permit. I kept the size for this relative to the needs for me and just the size of my yard!
Looks good so far. Not sure how I missed part I. Have to go watch that next!
no worries - thanks for checking it all out!
Great tutorial. I agree always better to over engineer then under engineer…
Agreed - I'd always be wondering why I didn't do it...
Thank you for making this video. I've read through some of the comments and will also take in consideration.
Love it, keep it up
What if the red break pin won't come out?
I’ve never had that. Gotta turn it and jiggle it a bit
@@workshop_edits I used a pry bar to get some leverage and it popped right out.
As someone who had done this many times before u were born i would say you get a C+ from me or 7 out of 10. You blew ot by calling a ridge vent a soffit and by NOT APPLYING YOUR SEALANT IN A WAVE PATTERN!!!!!!!!
Feels like an 8.5 at a minimum
Beautiful work, fence and talented to young man! This is the fence I'd like for my home in San Antonio, Texas...wish I could adopt you....Great-grandmom, Rosie
Thank you very much!
Great video. Looks nice. I've been contemplating what type of surface to place over my concrete patio. I'm curious... it's been some time since you filmed this. How's it holding up?
It’s held up very well with regular cleaning and leaf blowing; it’s covered so I think that does help - but it is all rated for outdoor use across all materials, and with regular maintenance it’s done great and I’d just flag that it’s very slippery when wet so take that into account!
Well that’s just fuggly and lattice is so 1970s 😅.. also never paint exterior brick as it needs to breathe so you use brick stain. Yo really missed an opportunity to make that brick wall look rich and classy with the multitudes of stain colors available 👎🏼 honestly you took something upscale and made it look cheap and trashy..
Thanks so much for the compliments!
Looks good, I am wondering if this would be legal on 6 foot fence limits as I have in Florida. I need to find a way to extend the fence without getting called by an inspector or an unhappy neighbour
Just do your homework and look up local codes - if you follow them no one can tell you otherwise
@@workshop_edits off course but que question is: Is an extension like this legal or not? if you consider it part of the fence yes if it is an "open extension for plants to grow" it may not..
Great video. Thank you. I need a gigantic table in my garage.
It’s the best
Do you not have to worry about the post in the cement? Decaying?
Maybe 25 years from now but otherwise no - it’s pressure treated rated for ground contact
For the board across the bottom. Did you drill water drain holes so the metal doesn't sit in rain water and the wood won't dry rot?
Yes!
nice job! I'm going to give it a try!
How do you attach the screen to the post?
It’s embedded in and sandwiched between the dado grooves
Nice Fence! So, you only used half a bag of quikrete per post? I'm not trying to by too many bags.
Buy more than you need and return - it really depends how deep and wide you go but 6 bags was PLENTY to anchor 9 posts 18” down
Wow, those are at Tractor Supply for $30 apiece
It’s worth noting they’re a completely different aesthetic and overall quality. But it’s a scaleable solution for someone for sure
Building the same thing tomorrow.
Excellent presentation! How square is the fence to the cut?
very accurate - I didn't have to change anything out of the box - its an incredibly high quality machine
Trying to download the plans but the authentication code doesn’t work
Email me and I’ll send it to you
@@workshop_edits thanks I appreciate I’ll email you now
if i lived where you do, id ask my local officials why there are water restrictions when the govt/military/nasa have the ability to make it rain. nice looking fence btw.
Thanks!
16' x 50" panels are $31 at Tractor supply....not sure why those 8' sections you bought were $90....that's crazy high! you could have bought 3 16' panels for the same price....Were the sections you bought already wood framed?
I would like to have seen the edges ......
We just mudded them up and stuck them on - maybe used a clamp every now and then if they didn’t fit with just force.
🤢🤢🤮🤮
is a attic without a ventilation similar to how a microwave work? All the condensation builds up on the top and the heat no where to escape?
Yes
@@workshop_edits my house currently dont have any vents on top but a gable vent on one side. Would adding two of those turbines be enough for a small home? I currently have mold issues growing on the bottom side of the attic wood.
@@workshop_edits also how much difference do you feel now compared to how it was before? Do you feel a major difference in temperture change during the summer heat?
I’m not a roofing professional so I can’t speak to anything beyond what I installed for my set up and house size. I notice very little difference because an attic still will get hot, but I do know they are also keeping my attic healthier long term
Aaaand another stupid epoxy table.
Why are you so angry
@@workshop_edits Because the centuries old knowledge of furniture makers is dying.
This project had woodworking, steam bending, epoxy, and metal working, all in one. You’re welcome.
@@workshop_edits Thats why I was disapointed. I saw the steam bending and thougt you would do something interesting. Something people don´t make very often anymore. You know, a windsor rocker chair, a wooden canoe, something like that. But no, its just an epoxy table.
You’re an enormous douchebag who is not welcome on my channel
One issue you can run into, maybe not so much in Cal, is the bottom dado has no outlet for water. Water can pool in those slots and rot your wood. For the bottom stringer just slice it in two and pinch the hog wire. Then water runs right out the bottom. A little extra work as you have to screw the two pieces together, but not too much. Nice looking work.
I should have shown it but I drilled drainage holes in the bottom of the dados to account for this
That's what I see a lot of people doing in the videos I've watched@workshop_edits
Awesome!! Quick question... Regarding the dado that was cut on the bottom stringer to accept the hogwire fencing, would that dado just now be a place for water to sit and eventually ruin the piece? Asking because I don't have experience with it and honestly don't know. Looks great, though!
Technically yes. The way to avoid the issue which I didn’t film or talk about (my bad) is just to drill some relief holes for drainage. I was also told that the exposed wood is no longer treated so you might wanna put a sealant on it as back up.
Dude your a legend! Thanks for all the details ur the man
No problem 👍
Pro tip - 45 the top and bottom tiles of the edges so they butt up against each other, this way the brown sides of the tiles are not seen.
This is maybe the best tip given so far in the comments and something I would have never thought about as a first timer
The sell edging for this reason....
I know it’s been a long time since you posted this project but I just came across it. What size screw did you use to mount the posts to the cinder block wall?
They’re 3.75” tapcons. I would recommend doing 4”+ if I were to do it again to just make it a little easier, as well as using a hammer drill
Just a good note, tractor supply sells oakbrand feed panels 8 foot by 50 inches for 22 dollars
I did look into those - unfortunately the nearest Tractor Supply is 90 miles away and didn’t even carry those! I also just for some reason thought they looked a lot cheaper than the Home Depot ones but 100% a good budget friendly alternative
Is there any way to access these without getting on the roof? From the attic?
What do you mean by access? Like to install, or after installing? What do you need to access them for?
I think she meant marking the middle of the center point without going inside the attic.
I installed three of these by following your videos . Unfortunately Home Depot no longer have colored one in stock in my area so I got the silver one. Two of them are doing great but the last one isn’t spinning as much as the other two. Summers coming up so I’m hoping these would help lower the temperature. My attic last summer was 138 F in California all I had were gable vents and one intake. Now with 3 whirly birds installed I’m hoping it would help this year
Idk why but when I built my 6 ft fence I dug by hand. Next time getting an augur. If you didn’t have an augur you can use a dirt breaker bar. To loosen up hard impacted dry dirt
No shot I was doing that in the 100° heat. God bless that auger.
I’m here because I saw this fence and I want one like it so I’m making my husband do it like this lol
Hey you sound a lot like my wife! I would recommend doing it asap before it gets hot…👀
Excellent video thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
Amazing video! thx gonna make this tmr :)
Have fun!
In the UK most fences around a rear yard are only allowed to be 2 meters or 5.5 feet, you planning permission to build higher
good to know for the folks in the UK looking for ideas
@@workshop_edits I mean 6.5 feet high
What are the dimensions?
Why does nobody read the descriptions…
Holy crap man I did my fence like this and paid $32 for 16’x36” panels. Nice looking fence though. Still cheaper than contracting it out. In total mine was around 90’ long with two gates and came to right around $600 total all in.
Yea I think a lot of it is about the exact style you want or the stores around you - I did see some bigger cheaper options through Tractor Supply but I don’t live near one and the style was slightly off from what I wanted - thinner gauge, raw silver color, and the squares were much bigger but for sure many options out there!
Remember he said Southern California. Everything is more expensive in California.
nice!
Thanks!
Hi! Do you have a link or can you share the info about the dado blade size to use?
I would reco half inch, and don't cut / space things too tight where the top and bottom stretcher s squeeze the fence panelling / bends it. With wood expanding and contracting - more space to have things floating prevents railings from warping or cracking since the steel won't move with it.
Looks great 👍
Thanks!
Be careful in the heat. Glad you're ok now though. To everyone, you MUST learn to work with the heat. No shame in getting shade and water every 30 minutes or so in heat like that. Especially in direct sunlight. Be careful out there and never stop making. 💪😎
yea - the heat, excessive work, and excess heat caused by the black fabric just completely overdid it for me; was no going back unfortunately once it hit
I have never seen a video with someone testing the sawstop with their finger ! why not ? my fingers are not slimy hot dogs and i would never trust technology to keep them attached .
If you want to send me $200 I will do it live but I’m not buying a new premium blade and brake
Nice looking fence! I was contemplating something similar in a much less visible area, where I currently just have Tposts and wire fence. It doesn’t need to be “better”, but it would look better.
Yea I think aesthetics of this fence are just on point and I’d love to see more of it pop up in my area
Nice cutting boards. Regarding your "mistake", since the gaps are all at the end of the cutting boards, it doesn't seem like the blades are the problem. Looks to me like snipe.
I thought so too but it’s def the blade inconsistency on the outer pieces
@@workshop_edits It's definitely blade wear. I had the same issue with the centrs of a panel being thicker than the edges. If it was snipe it would be at the ends and across the entire panel. I used it as an excuse to upgrade to a helical cutter head
